Collection: *Demantoid

Demantoid is a green variety of andradite within the Garnet family. Its color is driven primarily by chromium, producing hues that range from yellow-green to saturated emerald-green. Unlike most garnets, demantoid has a notably high refractive index and dispersion, which contribute to strong brilliance when properly cut.

Originally discovered in Russia’s Ural Mountains in the 19th century, demantoid later became known for distinctive “horsetail” inclusions — radiating fibrous features associated with certain deposits. These inclusions are not flaws in the conventional sense; in some cases, they serve as geographic indicators.

This collection includes natural faceted demantoid documented for weight, origin, clarity, and treatment disclosure. While some green garnets on the market may be heated, individual listings clearly state treatment status.

With a hardness of 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale, demantoid requires considered setting but offers exceptional optical performance among garnets. Historically associated with vitality and growth, its reputation rests less on symbolism and more on measurable optical behavior.
